I was suffering headaches all day every day for 6 months and no amount of tablets would take it off, it was horrendous for both me and my husband. I was going to bed early, had the curtains shut all the time to keep the light out, I couldn’t even watch the TV in the bedroom because it hurt my head. Through all of this I managed to drag myself to work every day as an administrator even though the computer did not help at all. I went to the doctors on a Friday and he sent me to have my eyes tested so I went to the opticians on the Saturday morning, he told me my retina was detaching and heading towards my brain and that I needed to see the emergency doctor which I did straight away and they transferred my to the Queens Medical Centre. Luckily there was a neurologist on call who saw me and I was rushed in for a lumbar puncture on the Monday.
That was May 1999, since then I have had 2 lumbar punctures, been on various medication.
I have been symptom free since 1st December 2000, stopped all medication on 24th March 2001, consultant confirmed no high pressure on 7th November 2003 and was discharged from the hospital May 2004.
My BIH went but I still live with the thought that it may appear again especially when me and my husband do finally have children which I hope will be sooner rather than later, pregnancy can bring the BIH back because of the increased levels but my consultant said he would monitor me closely along with the midwives.
